Entering our second half doesn’t have to mean sacrificing comfort or letting go of a positive body image. For women over 50, embracing a holistic approach to well-being can lead to newfound comfort, both physically and mentally. In this blog post we’ll explore how addressing common concerns like belly fat, natural hormonal balance, building strength, improving sleep and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can empower women over 50 to truly revel in the comfort of their bodies.

Battling Belly Fat with a Balanced Lifestyle: 

As we age, hormonal changes can contribute to the accumulation of belly fat. However, addressing this concern doesn’t have to involve extreme measures. Instead, focus on adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet and regular exercise. Include enough protein, fiber and quality fat while limiting processed carbs and sugars. Get regular exercise including strength training and cardio. Aim to get more gentle movement throughout the day as well. Because hormones play a role in belly fat, getting enough quality sleep and incorporating stress reducing techniques into our life is essential.

Unlocking the Power of Natural Hormonal Balance:

Hormonal shifts are a natural part of aging, but maintaining a healthy balance is crucial for overall comfort. Explore natural ways to support hormonal equilibrium, such as following a balanced diet including foods with phytoestrogens like legumes, walnuts and flaxseed. Consider your stress levels. If you are constantly feeling stressed this can impact your hormones in a negative way. Finding mindfulness practices like breathwork, yoga, MELT and meditation can all offer relief to daily stress and help bring equilibrium to your nervous system and hormones.

Embracing a Healthy Lifestyle:

A healthy lifestyle is the cornerstone for wellbeing at any age. It is never too late to start or improve on healthy habits. Start with small sustainable changes, like: moving for 10 minutes after each meal, improving sleep hygiene, preparing your own foods to control what you eat, or adding five minutes of breathwork into your daily routine. Notice how you feel as you incorporate this habit. Once you feel like it’s part of your life and you are benefiting from it, add another. Many small changes add up to give big rewards.

Relieving Aches and Pains:

Feeling comfortable is challenging if we’re struggling with aches and pains. Learning ways to reduce aches and pains naturally is empowering. Focus on incorporating anti-inflammatory foods into your diet. Learn proper form first before adding weight, speed or power when exercising. Incorporate movement that feels good to your body like Pilates, yoga or light stretching. Learn techniques that rehydrate your tissue and decompress your joints like The MELT Method. 

Choosing What Brings You Joy:

Do you love your jeans? Do you feel calm when you walk into your kitchen? Is your bedroom a sanctuary? Do you love to curl up with a good book? What hobby allows you to express your creativity? Primary Foods are the foods off our plate and include all areas of our life like: Home Environment, Career, Creativity, Spirituality, Finances, Home Cooking, Education, Health, Physical Activity, Relationships, Social Life and Joy. Celebrating the areas that are in balance while actively focusing on the areas that are out of balance can bring more satisfaction and comfort into your life.
