Embracing a New Chapter: How The MELT Method Empowers Women Over 50

May 07, 2024

In my work with female clients over the age of 50, I have seen for years how implementing The MELT Method into their daily routine has helped in so many ways. Daily living causes dehydration in our connective tissue. Our sensory nerve endings live in the connective tissue. When the environment where our nerve endings live become dehydrated and for a better word, stuck or sticky, our body wide signaling can become impaired. The connective tissue that makes up our fascia is in and around our muscles, bones and joints. When fascia becomes dehydrated we lose joint mobility. Once we go through menopause and our estrogen levels decline it is common to experience joint aches and pains and trouble sleeping. These are all issues that can be improved through learning how to juice up the tissue and rebalance the nervous system. Add in MELT Neurostrength moves to improve neurological stability for your joints and reduce risk of injury. Let’s break it down and talk about the different aspects of aging and how The MELT Method helps in keeping us feeling youthful, pain free and mobile.

Joint Aches and Pains

Our connective tissue is a three-dimensional extracellular matrix. Picture a beautiful three- dimensional spider web that connects you from skin to bone and head to toe. The strands of this microscopic web are made up of collagen. This is your connective tissue, this is what makes up your fascia and where your sensory nerve endings live. Daily living causes this “spider webbing” to become compressed and dehydrated. Add in stressors from the environment like medications, toxins in the air and products we use in our homes, on our skin and in processed foods. These all settle inside this dehydrated tissue to cause what we call in MELT

Stuck Stress™. This Stuck Stress can cause our joints to be compressed and can cause pre- pain signals. Imagine sitting at your computer for an hour and then getting up and feeling tightness in your low back or hips. These are examples of Stuck Stress and pre-pain signals. Your body is telling you to pay attention. Many times we feel these signals and ignore them or associate them with aging and think there is nothing we can do about it. If we ignore these signals, the Stuck Stress will continue to accumulate, cause aches and pains and bigger problems down the road. Add in the fact that as we age and our estrogen levels decline, our tendons and ligaments lose their supportive qualities. Our tendons and ligaments are made up of connective tissue and can be positively affected by MELTing daily. Read more about fascia and menopause.

Another aspect of MELT is NeuroStrength™. NeuroStrength is a neuromuscular therapy that you can perform on yourself. Learning how to stabilize your core, shoulder and pelvis help keep you strong without dysfunction.

If you have instability in your hips, you may start to experience knee pain, your calves may feel super tight, or you may experience problems like plantar fasciitis. Once you learn how to rehydrate your connective tissue and reintegrate your neuromuscular system, you can minimize or rid yourself of joint aches and pains.

Improved Sleep

As we move through menopause and into our later years, many of us experience trouble falling or staying asleep. We often think this is age related, this is just how it’s gonna be. But we do have tools we can use to improve our sleep and MELT has an effective tool that’s simple, easy and feels good. The MELT Rebalance sequence helps calm our sympathetic nervous system and tap into our parasympathetic nervous system. By turning down our “fight or flight” response and tuning into our “rest and recover” response, we can set ourselves up for a better night’s sleep. Plus, when I have clients who struggle with restless legs, neuropathy or Charlie horses in the middle of the night that disrupt their sleep, there are MELT sequences to help calm these ailments and improve sleep.

Immunity Boosting

As we age, our immune system changes and it can lose its efficiency and responsiveness. The production of our immune cells decreases and our existing immune cells don’t work as effectively. How can MELT help keep our immune system functioning at its optimum? Our lymphatic system is inherently linked to our fascia. Our lymphatic system and immune systems are interconnected networks that work together to detect, respond to and eliminate pathogens and foreign substances. The lymphatic system provides a means of travel to mount effective immune responses throughout the body. Using The MELT Method to keep your fascia hydrated in return keeps your lymph system moving. Stagnant fascia can equal a sluggish lymphatic system and can lower the efficiency of our immune system. MELT also calms the nervous system which has a positive effect on the immune system. Other ways to keep your lymphatic and immune systems optimum: consume immune fighting foods like turmeric, leafy greens, green tea, sweet potatoes, yogurt and other fermented foods, garlic, ginger berries and citrus fruits. Get enough quality sleep. Another tool you can use is a lymph brush and dry brush to stimulate your lymphatic system.

Overall Less Stress and Tension

The MELT Method is a technique that helps you relax and calm your nervous system while helping your whole body feel more relaxed with less tightness, tension and pain. Have you ever had one of those days where you wish you could relax your whole body? Where you thought if only I had the time to get a massage? I wish I could just relax? One of the amazing things about MELT is once you learn some basic techniques, (which I make a priority to teach you and give you every opportunity to learn how to do on your own). You have the ability to MELT whenever and wherever you want. For example MELT is a part of my evening winddown routine. I MELT for 10-15 minutes almost every evening which allows me to relax and de-stress before bedtime.

The MELT Method has been a consistent staple in my and my clients’ self-care tool kits for over 10 years. Are you looking to learn to MELT? I have several ways I can help you. I offer Private MELT Sessions on Zoom. Or if you want, try my self-paced 30 Day Learn to MELT.

Set up a Free Discovery Call if you’d like to learn more and are not sure how to start. We can talk about your goals and trouble spots and find what will work best for you.
